This was the 2nd SKOC song ever written and it was written with Derek before the band was fully formed. It's pretty damn goofy, but I'm not apologizing. I kept wanting the recording to sound like the Butthole Surfers but we apparently didn't have access to their liquor/medicine cabinet.
I think that Nate Moon wrote all the music to this song. I believe his Dad even helped? His Dad was an awesome Blues guitar player. Anyway, I wrote the lyrics and I think I "borrowed" lyrics again from the Violent Femmes. I know.. shameful. I've always loved this song, though, it makes me think about the Cowboy Junkies. Useless trivia: The bass sounds like an upright bass sorta, but it's because I was using flatwound strings and a chorus pedal.
This was one of our first songs. We recorded this with Jason Coombes (sp?) on a 8-track in his basement. We put it on a 7" with Hey Lady and it got a really good review in the Rocket. Then we got some calls from IRS records and TVT records asking us to make demos, but we botched that somehow. Heh. Anyway, the lyrics for this song were based on Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal". Hopefully that makes up for my lyrics for "Saw ya comin".
This is the same version of BBQ Funk as appears on the Sampler. Read the long description there.
I'm not sure Internet Girl was ever released in any form. Or, maybe it's on the Jay's comp? I'll never understand why we do stuff like that. Anyway, this is the version with Volumen Turbo and it was supposed to be on the doomed Cleaner's compilation. So, if you own the Jay's comp you still don't own this. This was a weird period for Volumen. We had become addicted to human drummers but we still hadn't found Volumen Beta.
This is the same version of Momma's Boy that appears on the Sampler. That is to say, it's the original. Boo-yah!
People seem to enjoy these particular sonics the most. Go figure.
