Around this period we started to get more and more weird. The songs kept getting complicated and they were harder and harder to put words to because there was so much going on in the song. Good friends of ours started accusing us of writing songs just for ourselves at this point. Meh.. whatever. I don't really remember what this song was about... they don't all need stories.
Speaking of darker songs. Woah. This one is pretty creepy. I think I had just re-read all of the Lord of the Rings books and I wanted to make songs like Led Zeppelin. Heh. I remember writing the crazy ass bass line at the beginning when I was in Lompoc visiting my family... thank god I had plenty of free time on my hands, it took forever.
This is one of my favorite SKOC songs of all time. It was fun as hell to play. It seemed like we started getting a little darker around the time that this song was written. Getting old is a real bitch, I guess. Anyway, Doug and Nate really started to do a lot of interplay with their parts around this time, it definitely gives you plenty to listen for.
This was one of the first SKOC songs but it used to be called Glenda. I think it was about a bitchy girl I went to highschool with. Anyway, I think we decided that it seemed kinda petty, so we changed it to be about a kid with magic dirtbike powers. Hmm.. ok. This song is a perfect example of how I just wasn't able to make a simple bass line. It _had_ to be nuts. Also, once again, we let the boys have like a gazillion guitar tracks in the middle.
This song is pretty haunting. I'm pretty sure the music for this song was written by Nate. I kept listening to a crappy practice cassette tape trying to write lyrics. We apparently recorded over a cassette that a childhood friend made for me (I know.. total dick move). Anyway, some of his talking came through over the music and he said something about being serious and that just stuck.
When we talked about this song we always called it Double 0, as in 007. Apparently I like to write songs about fictional characters. Also, James Bond is the shit, so no explanation really needed. I wish I could remember how to play this bassline. It's funky fresh.
People seem to enjoy these particular sonics the most. Go figure.
