Boy did we ever catch shit for this one. I still love the idea and I wish we had more remixes. Not everyone agrees.
I remember writing the guitar part for this song in a snow-covered cabin outside of Lincoln, Montana. Erika and I spent a weekend up there and I brought my guitar. I think it was detuned accidentally when I picked it up outta the case so I just rolled with. Anyway, I still can't believe it took me this many years to finally write a song about video games. Sheesh.
A sweaty dedication to Evil Kenevil (sp?) and the Fireballs of Freedom. Check out the version of this on Volumen Songs for Erika to hear the original. Although, this version slays it.
This was the first song the Bacon brought to the table. We all loved it instantly, and it seemed like people loved it when we played it live. So, it was really the impetus for releasing the SCG EP. This track also marks the first and only time that Volumen used electronic drums in a recording. The Professional Super Heroes (from Eureka) do an awesome cover of this song... look for it on MySpace.
Hands down.. this is my favorite SKOC song ever. It was sooo damn fun to play and sing. I wrote it in the gas station I was working at in Laramie. It was pretty much pure hate directed at this girl Leslie that drove me fucking nuts. I'm not even sure now why I hated her so much, but boy did I ever. I kept thinking this could be our radio hit... mainly because there wasn't any swearing in it. We even changed a "shit" to "junk", if I recall correctly.
I'm pretty sure this song was about using some kind of magical tunneling machine to get away to the center of the earth. I must have written it during those Laramie winters. Jesus, those could be depressing.
Another creepy one in the line of Bone White Girl. It's pretty much a story about a man who uses black magic to kill his lover and bury her. Jesus. Something bad must have happened to me around this period. I've always been fascinated by the Occult, though. We used to have a group in college that met to discuss all things Occult, maybe that's where this came from? Sorry Ma!
People seem to enjoy these particular sonics the most. Go figure.
