Volumen-2 strikes again. This song includes the following topics. 1) Traffic School 2) Colostomy bags 3) Mario Paint Pornography 4) The plight of Native Americans. I'm not sure how it all ties together, but it does. This one is wicked fun to play live and I think somewhere along the line we made it to be about KBGA. But, maybe that was just to kiss ass?
Volumen^2 wrote this song and then he and Volumen-2 recorded this version and fleshed it out a little bit. Man, you never know what you are going to get when you put those two together (i.e. Mr. Shriner). This song is a Volumen live show staple because it's fun to play and also, we've burned it into our brains. So, we can play it at 2AM with stomachs full of Bourbon. THEY FLY!
Yup, this is the original version of Corky. Volumen-2 wrote this song back in Laramie and I think he was thinking about using it in The Squares. But, then he moved before we could include him in that project. Who knows what would have happened if he had stayed though. Hmm.. where is my "What If" machine? Anyway, Corky was a mechanic at the gas station that Doug and I used to work at. He apparently made an impression.
I wrote this song in Laramie after Dug moved away. I recorded one version and then literally the next day my new drum machine and effects processor showed up, so I redid it. I'm still searching for those old versions and I'll post em when I find em. Anyway, this is one of the many Volumen songs about fish... and love. "That's nice" When we used to play this song live as a 2-piece, we used a vocal effects processor to harmonize like 5 vocals. It was nuts.
Woah. This song changed quite a bit from when we first recorded it (see Volumen Records Sampler). I'm not sure why we decided to do those goofy voices. Anyway, this song is a flawed masterpiece. The intro is the FUCKING SHIT! Then we screw it up and then it gets fantastic again. This song (even more than Chromozon) is a Volumen song you will most likely never hear played live.
I think we wrote this song in Bob's old practice space while we were rehearsing for the Spiders From Mars show. So, we weren't actually even a band yet. Maybe I'm misremembering it, but i don't think so. I remember playing it on acoustic guitar, for sure. Bacon used to play the accordion live for this song, but I think he broke 2 accordions and they don't grow on trees. This song is about my fear of crowds.
People seem to enjoy these particular sonics the most. Go figure.
