One Thanksgiving break, Volumen-2 and myself were hanging out his parents house in Great Falls. We had a hair-brained idea to work out this musical. So, we wrote a bunch of songs and recorded them on the 4-track that we brought with us. Only this one made it out alive. I believe it was originally about Humpy (thus the reference to Days of Our Lives.. Justin loves that show). But, we sorta changed the meaning a little bit to be about afterhours parties in general... and waiting at shows.
This is in my top 3 of favorite songs that Volumen-2 has ever written. You should hear the 4-track version! I'll try and dig it up. It freaking REEKED of Prince in that version. I think he did something weird with the time in his version though, and we could never figure it out in practice, so we compromised it somehow. But, it's still freaking great, so no one is crying.
Here's some useless trivia for ya. When I first wrote this song, the lyrics "We're gonna travel to the land that time forgot, Sexy Astronaut" were "I'm so tired of dirty rock" or something to that effect. I really was that tired of "dirty" rock, but that seemed like a stupid thing to make a song about. I wrote the real lyrics while I was working for Touch America. The last verse made me cry. (Ahhh... cute)
Once Volumen-2 learned about Throckmorton, it was all over. This song incorporates aspects of that medical condition and VolumenBeta's stories about growing up with Private Benjamin the series. I really would love to go deep on this one, but you'll have to buy us a beer first. While you are at is, ask us what happened in Great Falls with this song.
So, I wrote this part in Laramie. But, actually it was taken out of Some Kind of Cream song. I think it was called Tribute. I just love the walk part and I can't let it go, so I keep trying to use it. I'm not sure it was a perfect fit tacked onto this song, but what's done is done.
This song was originally called Andale Con El Volumen, but we shortened it for some reason. I think Dug wrote most of this song? Anyway, it tackles many different topics. 1) Everyone just called us Volumen when the met us individually at bars (I think because people didn't know who was Doug and who was Shane 2) The Unearth People is a trashy sci-fi book I was reading at the time. I think Doug saw the book cover on the toilet and liked the name 3) Gilgamesh.. eh?
People seem to enjoy these particular sonics the most. Go figure.
