I wrote this one for my baby and I'm pretty sure there is an accoustic 4-track demo some where. This was the only song on the record that was recorded live with just room mics. I wanted it to sound like a bunch of drunk guys in a quiet room at a party. I know.. it's a real stretch. For the record, I freaking love the rhythm section's intro on this one. Also, I'm not sure that Penumbric is even a word... but they use it in Magic the Gathering, the card game, so it's close enough.

Because what else does a 9 minute instrumental song need except for a reprise, right? Heh. Volumen-2 orchestrated this one with the boys. It features such sounds as a swinging microphone (to generate cyclical feedback) and wine glasses played with a wet finger. I've noticed that every time we do a reprise, VolumenBkawck is involved. I think he's a bad(good) influence on Volumen-2.

The song that was to eventually become Dune was first created when Volumen (performing as Nemulov) scored Nosferatu for a Halloween showing. Doug wrote the intro riff with his crazy ass pedal. Then, somehow it got turned into an instrumental that we played at our Cries from Space tour kickoff show, I think. We didn't have a title for it. But, someone came up to us after the show and asked if it was the Toto song from Dune, the movie. Rad. And thus, a title is born.

When we did our Tour:Baltic, Vanek and Rusty convinced us that we should play the national anthems of the various countries we were playing in. So, we learned Finlandia (which isn't the Finnish national anthem, it's more like "My Country 'tis of Thee") and we also learned the Latvian national anthem. Finlandia really stuck in our heads though. Plus, it's public domain so it's a great way to release a "cover song" on a record and not have to pay royalties. Take that Suomi!

This is in my top 3 favorite Volumen-2-written songs. It was originally called Monster and it was about gambling addiction. Now it's about that dangerous last mile between the bar and your house. Yup, another Volumen drinking song. Go figure. I joke that it's part 2 of our alcohol abuse trilogy. Pandemonium - Last Mile - Lush and Co

I'd heard Volumen-2 monkey around with some of the riffs in this song for awhile. I think I'll be able to dig up some 4-track songs that include parts of these riffs pretty soon. Anyway, one day he put them all together and we got this song out of it. I've noticed that if we are playing a show that is likely to get shut down (due to excessive volume), this song will get us shut down every time. It's freaking loud.
